Around Charleston

Before & After

These photos were taken around the downtown Charleston area. I chose to capture well known streets such as Calhoun, Saint Phillips, King, and Glebe. It was important for me to include the street sign with a good angle of the actual street.

It was my goal to edit each photo differently. However, each photo more or less has adjustments in brightness, contrast, sharpness, increase exposure, or saturation. Most of my edited photos have focus in particular areas by using a filter, blur, or selective coloring to accentuate specifc elements.

This was one of my favorite assignments!

Improving My Sister

This is a perfect example of implimenting what I learned in class and using it to my own advantage. I saw this photo of my sister and thought I could make it better.

I increased brightness, exposure, and sharpness to illuminate the whole photo. The trees were improved by shifting curves so that there wasn't too much light around her face, but just enough to lighten up the branches. I love the way these effects make the sunlight hit her cheaks and illuminate her hair!

If you look at the unedited image, on the middle left side there is a waterbottle in the grass. I used the clone stamp to get rid of it, leaving the look of a valley or open field behind her.

This in-class design task incorporated a great deal of skill sets. The background image accommodates multiple trim sizes in a single file. Images incorporate vector graphics as rasterized layers and Smart Objects. The design also required lots of scaling and aligning different objects; and we managed individual layout elements using layers and layer groups.

Basketball Nation

The purpose of this project was to create a composite image of the United States map and college basketball. This in class assignment required image resizing/transformations, Shape Layers, converting layers to Smart Objects, trimming, experimenting with filters, patterns and adjustments,  and creating an artistic background.

The obvious oversight in this design is that I overlooked filling in Alaska. The images didn't seem to fit the way I wanted them to. Aside from that, I learned that this process is a valuable tool when creating image composites.

Selective Coloring

The selective coloring process is simple and fun! A brief description of the process I used is as follows: I used the Lasso tool to select the basketball players’ jerseys, then I inversed the image, followed by adding black and white to the unselected areas, lastly I fine-tuned the green and blue in the jerseys by using the color sliders.
